History

Doe Mountain has been mostly privately owned for generations. It was slated for development until the land was purchased by state and local governments, thereby protecting this incredible natural resource from private development.  The Doe Mountain Recreation Authority (DMRA) was created by the State of Tennessee in 2012, to provide an outdoor recreation area in North East Tennessee and a tourism base for Johnson County. The Authority is governed by a Board of Directors, consisting of (15) members. Their Executive Director and staff oversee daily operations and the Board administers more than 8,600 acres of rugged mountain wilderness that comprises the Doe Mountain Recreation Area.
